Woohoo!
You've booked a session, and I'm SO excited to be able to capture your precious moments. Life's precious moments are fleeting, and you don't want to miss one second while awaiting the arrival of your child. Getting maternity photos done is so important in capturing once-in-a-lifetime memories.
But now that you have the session booked and the maternity session details figured out, you have to figure out what to wear.
Should you wear a dress? A skirt? Go casual and stick with jeans? Your style is completely up to you, but one thing should remain in your mind. Your session is styled by YOUR outfit choices. As a photographer, I can control location, the editing style, and I've even gotten the lighting pretty nailed down. But the STYLE of your session is completely based on what you wear.
Why is this important? If you're looking to feel like a queen in your photos, a casual jean look is probably not the right outfit choice. Put on a flowy maternity gown and BOOM. You look like a queen.
Now you may be saying, "I don't want to spend even more on a dress, especially when I'll probably only wear it one time." I get it. That's why you don't have to! We have a CLIENT CLOSET with 10 maternity dresses for you to choose from! Our gowns are available for use in your session at no extra charge!
On top of our closet, with your session, you get 2-3 outfit changes. If you have an outfit you want to incorporate, go for it! If you need any style help, I am here to help. Upon booking a session you will receive a STYLE GUIDE, which will give you more information on clothing ideas, followed up by a phone consultation to answer any outfit questions you may have.
Here are the basics for our suggested style guide:
If there are multiple people in the photo, outfits should be of the same color scheme. The easiest way to do this is through sticking to more neutral colors. Try and stay away from prints, with the exception of florals, which are very "in" for bohemian styles right now.
Women- A maxi dress is an easy way to dress up from head to toe! We have gowns available for you to use. Please wear a nude bra and underwear to prevent any see-through clothing mishaps.
If you're looking for a more casual, boho style, jeans are an awesome choice with a cute pair of boots! See what this gorgeous mama did for her outfit below.
For makeup and hair, do what makes you feel pretty! This is all about you, so shine! Makeup, such as eyeshadow and lipstick, help accentuate your facial features in the camera. Getting your makeup professionally done for your maternity shoot is definitely something to think about and will make you feel even more amazing the day of your session. Also, please ensure your nails are freshly painted or bare.
Men- Pants are highly recommended, as they help elongate the body to make you look taller! Solid shirt colors are also recommended to make your outfit matching a little easier.
Children- For children, stick to your color palette. Whether it's a cute dress, dress pants, or nice jeans, your little one will look fabulous in your family portraits. For little ones, try and stay away from light colors or bring some clothes for backup just in case your first outfit gets dirty!
Style Guide Don'ts!
We recommend you don't wear wrinkled, ragged or ripped clothing (though some designers do this on purpose). Also, please don't wear any graphic shirts, as this draws attention away from your faces.
